Shape Shifter is a new member of a growing number of matching games. The game is unique in its game play. Game play consists of taking a shape at the bottom of the screen and matching it to a shape in the strips moving across the screen. Each strip on the screen alternates directions. Once all the objects in a row are matched, the row disappears. Complete all the rows and the level is complete. You get points for your matches and there are bonuses available also. From time to time, you’ll see a shape flashing. Matching this shape will give you bonus time, bonus points, a Revealer or Wild Cards. Revealer works for a short time and displays your matches. Wild Cards turn all the shapes at the bottom of the screen to paintbrushes and you can then use them to match any shape on the screen. |
There are two modes of play. First mode is Beat the Clock and you must finish a level in a specific time. In Speedster, you try to remove rows as fast as possible. As time goes on, more rows are added. If the rows get to the top of the screen, the game is over. To complete a level, you must fill a certain number of rows. The number of rows is shown at the left. The game keeps track of high scores for both modes. Conclusion: Shape shifter is a very fast paced matching game. You’ll find yourself franticly selecting shapes and dropping them on the screen, always looking for the bonuses. I found this game very challenging and the shapes varied. The music wasn’t overly exciting. If it gets annoying, you can turn it down. The pacing of the game is good. I liked being able to start at a different level, rather than having to work your way up each time you play. My only complaint about the game is the price. There is not a lot of replay value in it.
