There are a multitude of music players available on the web to replace the standard Windows Media player on your Pocket PC. Some you have to pay for and the rest are free. WinVibe is a hidden treasure of a program. I ran across the program when it was discussed in one of the Pocket PC forums. WinVibe is a very well designed music player. The player has a very clean screen design. It’s plain, but functional. The screen buttons are small, but you can also use the hardware buttons to control the player. There even two soft buttons for screen off and power off. You can minimize the player to the taskbar. WinVibe is skinable, and there are several skins available on the site. Here are two that are available on the site. Supported files are MP2, MP3, OGG, WAV and WPL (Playlist Files). Video files are not supported. WMA and ASF files are supported if you install Windows Media Player Control for PokcetIE (projecteam.org/new/download/wmnall.exe). As the result, this is not a ‘one stop shop’ player because of the lack of video support. I found the playlist editor to be very easy to use. The dropdown menus have lots of options. The Open Files option was very easy to navigate the PPC directory tree. I’ve found that lacking in some other players. The player is capable of playing streaming stations. There are only 3 preset stations, so you will have to add your favorite ones. There are lyric options, but I could not use them because they were in Korean. The player has a multitude of audio options. It even detected Dell X50/X51 specific options. There are lots of player options to explore. You have full control of how your hardware buttons function with the player. Conclusion: The only drawback I could find with the program was the lack of support for video files. If it had supported video file formats I would have given the program 5 stars. One feature that would have been nice to have working was the lyrics look up and show. Unfortunately, this feature was all in Korean. (The designer is from Korea.) I had one weird thing happen while testing the program. The equalizer option disappeared, so I wasn’t able to test that feature. Overall, this is a well thought out and well programmed MP3 player. It would be nice if it was an ‘all in one’ player. If you’re looking for a free replacement for Windows Media Player, you can’t go wrong with this one. Where to buy it: Free at winvibe.tistory.com. |
