Overview:
Oh yes, another puzzle game. Somehow I never got around to trying the original Bejeweled. That has changed with my discovery of Bejeweled 2. Here?s another near perfect puzzle game. In the game, you have to flip 2 pieces to line up 3 or more jewels in a row. The 3 jewels explode and any jewels above them drop down. There are also ?special? jewels that will take out even more jewels around the 3 (or more).
The game has 4 ?playable? modes and several other locked modes. Classic Mode is based on the original version of Bejeweled. You have unlimited time, but you can run out of moves. In Action mode you play against the clock. Run out of time and the game ends. In Puzzle mode, you start with a pattern of jewels on the screen and you have to remove them all to progress. Endless mode is just that, endless. The games you can unlock are Original, Hyper, Cognito, Finity and Twilight. I leave it to you to discover how these games are unlocked and played.
In the game, there are several types of jewels. Normal Gems are the starting jewels. Power Gems are created from a string of 4 jewels of the same color. When that string explodes, it takes out jewels around the aligned jewels containing the Power Gem. Hyper Cube is created from a string of 5 jewels. You can then use that jewel to match with any other jewel and it will destroy any jewels of that color. There are Rocks that can not be matched. There are also Time Bombs.
The game is very customizable with sound settings and graphics tweaks. You can also set the game up as a screensaver.
Last but not least is the high score list. The game keeps a list of high scores for each mode. If that wasn?t enough, there are also full stats available for each mode. Oh my, have I really played this mode for 7 and ? hours?
Conclusion:
I will confess, this is one of the best puzzle games I have played. It?s defiantly one of those ?one more try at a high score? games. I liked the sound, music, graphics and game play. It?s nice to have a version of the game you can play at your own pace.
The game includes a good help file that explains how the bonus games are unlocked.
The only down side to the game is the price. It would be nice if it were about ? the current price. This would be a great game to be able to post your high scores at their web site.
